Three miles across the Knik Arm from the Port of Anchorage is the states newest port, Port MacKenzie. At this site exists a plant specializing in meeting the needs of both bush housing and its workforce. Alutiiq operates a modern production facility specializing in the construction of buildings that are uniquely designed to stand up to the demands of rural Alaska. The unique integrated structural system of the Alutiiq buildings allows for them to be built in one unit and economically transported by barge to rural communities. The innovative design and use of modern construction materials significantly reduces the cost of these structures. Buildings have been designed to withstand the harsh winter effects of heat loss, frost heaves, settling and moisture. All electrical and mechanical components are inside a vapor barrier eliminating condensation. Ceiling joists are independent of the roof structure which eliminates interior truss lift. Even though the buildings are created in an assembly line environment, plans can be customized to meet the specifications of the buyer.
