A summary of course descriptions for many of our courses are listed below.
Active Shooter
This course is designed for Patrol Officers whose duties include responding to an Active Shooter incident. The course will include, but not limited to, proper mind set, forming a rapid response team, how to enter a building, movement toward suspects, basic small room tactics, scene consolidation and stress inoculation.
Basics of Interview and Interrogation
This course is designed to prepare investigators to conduct productive and lawful interviews and interrogations. Non-verbal and behavior analysis based techniques will be heavily discussed and demonstrated during the course of instruction. Topics of instruction will include, but not be limited to, preparation of questions for the subject, recognition of evasive responses, and the analysis of written statements.
Confidential Informant Management
This training is designed for officers who utilize or will need to utilize Confidential Informants. Officers will learn to develop, utilize, manage and properly document informants. Officers will also learn proper guidelines for handling informants, as well as the need to provide for and maintain Officer Safety when using informants. This training will also provide the Officers with a heightened awareness of various sources of information available to them directly related to the development and usage of Confidential Informants.
Digital Device Seizure for Law Enforcement
This 24 hour course is designed to provide law enforcement first responders with the necessary skill set to recognize electronic devices i.e. iPods, Video Game Consoles, PDA’s that may hold evidence; understand how the devices store data so that the first responder can safely handle the device with minimal risk of destroying or altering digital evidence and process the device in such a way that its evidentiary value is intact. It is important that law enforcement personnel have a basic understanding of what devices potentially hold evidence and the proper method of acquiring them so that any evidence is not altered or lost and that the items are processed in a way that insures their evidentiary integrity to a subsequent analysis by a trained specialist
Digital Photographic Surveillance Techniques
This course is designed for any law enforcement officer required to conduct photographic surveillance using a digital SLR camera. The problems encountered when photographing at long distances, under low light or other less than ideal conditions are stressed and are taught by personnel specially trained in surveillance and low light photography. Practical exercises are conducted during daylight and nighttime with critiques done the following morning. This course takes the student from novice to advanced level. In-depth photographic experience is not necessary.
Drug Unit Supervisor Training
This course is intended for the Drug Unit Supervisor who has been promoted into or transferred into a Supervisory Position in a Drug Unit or to a Drug Task Force. It will prepare the new supervisor to organize and manage investigations involving agents as to accountability, control, stress, informant issues, and multi-agency issues. Students will address organization, financial, personnel, political issues and problems during the course.
Fundamental of Conspiracy Investigations
This course is geared to individuals who are assigned investigations involving multi-level/multi-subject targeting, long term criminal activity subject histories and highly complex activities. The course will provide the attendee with the necessary skills and confidence to successfully complete these types of difficult investigations. Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to, the following: conspiracy defined, foreseeable knowledge of a conspiracy, telecommunications related activities, and illegal and legal acts in furtherance of a conspiracy. This course includes several hands on type practical exercises that allow the attendee to develop their own conspiracy investigation skills while under the tutelage of the Instructor. These exercises draw on and expand the attendee’s abilities to develop the new techniques that are necessary to take investigations to the “next level”.
Intelligence: Gathering, Analysis, and Dissemination
Intelligence work is a critical component of Federal, State, and local law enforcement operations. This course will emphasize the “tradecraft” theories behind the intelligence gathering cycle and provide the learner with basic working knowledge of the intelligence cycle. The learner will receive instruction on data exploitation, the analysis process, and the development of target packages. The course will identify the various elements that constitute the analysis process and provide case studies to emphasize the individual analytic features.
Methods of Communication in Criminal Organizations
This course is designed for new and experienced investigators and analysts. It will provide strategies and techniques to identify the various types of communications that are available to criminal enterprises or terrorist organizations. The three day class will cover communications ranging from conventional and cellular telephones to various types of internet methods to include social networking websites. It will include various sources which will help to identify information associated with numbers obtained from the communication devices. Instruction will be given on the legal issues and preparation and management of subpoenas and court orders. There will also be discussions with reference to the laws, both state and federal governing law enforcement and the collection of this type of information. The course will also include discussion on various databases available and the programs used to chart the communication intelligence compiled as a result of the analysis of raw data. Students will receive hands on training and will complete exercises to emphasize and evaluate skills learned during the lecture portions of the class. There will be instruction and exercises to learn basic skills using spreadsheet analysis and charting techniques.
Microsoft Suite for Intelligence Analysis
The focus of this training is the utilization of the Microsoft Office Suite to assist in the crime analysis process. This training entails both basic and limited advanced concepts. More specifically, the training includes “hands-on” use of Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Emphasis will be on how to collect and analyze data through data import and data entry into MS Access or Excel. Additionally, MS Word and PowerPoint will be used to demonstrate how the reporting and dissemination of information can be completed in an efficient and simplified manner.
Physical Surveillance
This course focuses on the categories of physical surveillance, surveillance terminology, equipment and skills. It addresses conducting surveillance on drug traffickers, circumventing counter-surveillance, identifying terrorist counter-surveillance, tactical operation plans, investigative reports, preparing for surveillance and operation scratch reports. After the first day of lecture to establish the rules, terminology, and tactics, students will be immersed in real surveillance operations.
Street and Prison Gang Investigations
This Course is designed to inform both the Law Enforcement Officer as well as the Correction Officers about Street and Prison Gangs and how they are plaguing the United States at a very rapid rate. Gang membership and migration have greatly increased as gangs spread from urban areas to rural communities. These trends have caused crime, violence, drugs and thefts to increase and have lowered the quality of life. Gangs and their violence have significantly affected Officer Safety, especially in Local Jails, State Prisons and Corrections Facilities. This course will teach the student to be able to describe factors leading to gang membership, relate to the individual gang member in order to develop rapport, informants, intelligence and inhibit gang membership. It will help identify existing and emerging street gangs and their signs. The student will learn what types of crimes are related to and committed by gangs. They will be taught how to develop a method of combating gangs as well as appropriate resources available to the officer and agency.
Tactical Team Development
This course is designed for Officers and Administrators who are planning on or have recently started a Tactical team. The course will include blocks of instruction relating to all facets of Tactical Team building including, but not limited to, needs assessment, fund development, personnel selection, training, equipment selection and purchasing, policy and procedure development, liability issues as well as final deployment planning.
Undercover Weapons and Tactics
This course is designed to provide Law Enforcement Officers who are in undercover assignments with an understanding of basic, practical undercover weapons, tactics to be employed, and officer safety issues. Learners will be exposed to theories on weapon selection, tactical positioning, methods of concealment, and drawing techniques. Practical exercises and scenario type training will be heavily utilized during this course.
Video Equipment Training for Surveillance
This is a basic video surveillance course for officers. Students will learn how to choose a video camera for surveillance and what accessories are needed. Camera techniques, planning for a shoot, and developing a standard operating procedure will be covered. Although the course is geared toward surveillance, some time will be spent on recording of crime scenes. There will be shoots during daylight and night time both indoor and outdoor. Officers will need to bring a video camera with batteries, recording media for their camera, and a tripod.
